FLETCHER, N.C. --- The final round of the Mars Hill University Invitational has been cancelled due to inclement weather, leaving the Tusculum University women's golf team as the champion.
The Pioneers' 302 on Monday gives TU a four-stroke win and the program's 25th team title in school history. Tusculum wins its second straight team title to start the season and third in its last four events, dating back to last season. TU won the 2018 Bob Dibble Classic earlier this month.
Tusculum's Katie Tomassoni, Cydney Murrell and Olivia Cunningham each shot 75 on Monday to finish in a five-way tie for second place honors. Brevard College's Taylor Scovel was declared the tournament medalist following Monday's two-over par 74.
The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the par-72, 5,841-yard Broadmoor Golf Links, which will host the South Atlantic Conference Championship this spring.
Newberry College finished second with a team score of 306 followed by Lincoln Memorial University (310), Mars Hill (329), Montreat College (338), Southern Virginia University (370), Pfeiffer University (395) and Columbia College (479).
Tusculum freshman Julia Johansson finished the tournament with a 77 to tie for eighth place. TU senior Taylor White had 80 and tied for 15th.
The Pioneers return to action next week (Oct. 1-2) as they travel to Sunset Beach, North Carolina and the Ocean Ridge Plantation for the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
