Pioneers, Tomassoni take day one lead at Dibble Classic

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team fired an opening round 295 to take the lead at the 2018 Bob Dibble Classic.  The Pioneers have a three-shot lead over the Carson-Newman B team who carded 298.

Tusculum senior Katie Tomassoni matched her career-best with an even par 71 on the 5,930-yard Link Hills Country Club layout.  Tomassoni shares the lead with Carson-Newman's Reagan Kinnie who also posted a 71.  The 71 ties the low opening round score in tournament history, which was set by Tusculum's Shannon Palenkas in 2006.

Tomassoni and Kinnie will be matched up in Tuesday's final group.  Tusculum is the three-time defending team champion of this event while Tomassoni is also the defending medalist.

Four Tusculum players are in the top-seven as rookie Olivia Cunningham posted a round of 72 in her collegiate debut.  Senior Cydney Murrell and freshman Julia Johansson both fired a 76 and are tied for seventh place.  Senior Taylor White is in 15th place following her round of 82.

Lincoln Memorial B is third with 327, followed by Tusculum Black (339) and Emory & Henry (413).

Sophomore Mackenzie Butler leads Tusculum Black as she fired a career-best 78 on Monday.  Newcomer Lauryn Munn posted an 85 and is in 17th place while sophomore Meredith Barton and rookie Jacque Butler are tied for 18th place with an 88.  Senior Trista Holder shot 91 and is in 22nd place.

Tomassoni's 71 is tied for the ninth lowest round in school history.  Tusculum's team score of 295 is also the third lowest and four shots off the record 291 fired in the 2012 Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills.
