ELGIN, S.C. --- The Tusculum duo of Cydney Murrell and Katie Tomassoni each posted seventh place finishes while the Pioneers also logged a seventh place performance at the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship.
Tusculum carded a final round team score of 330 to finish with 977 at the three-day, 54-hole championship held at The Members Club at Woodcreek. The Pioneers, who were in second place following each of the first two rounds, dropped five spots in the final standings and finished 37 strokes behind SAC Champion Wingate. The Bulldogs, who are ranked 15th in the nation, win their fourth league title and first since 2015. Wingate led wire-to-wire winning with a team score of 940 including Tuesday's final round 312.
The Bulldogs won by 26 shots over runner-up Queens, who finished with 966, while defending champion Lenoir-Rhyne shot 974 to finish third. Lincoln Memorial placed fourth with 975, while Carson-Newman and Anderson tied for fifth place honors with 976. Tusculum was seventh, followed by Coker (981), Catawba (1001), Newberry (1006) and Mars Hill (1111).
Wingate's Warissa Puangcharoen captured the individual medal with a three-day score of 232 to edge Cameryn Smith of Queens by a single stroke (233). Kate Hill of Anderson placed third with 235, while the Wingate duo of Laura Nunez and Diana McDonald tied for fourth with 236 to round out the SAC All-Tournament first team.
Carson-Newman's Elizabeth England finished sixth with 237, while Murrell and Tomassoni tied for seventh place with 54-hole scores of 238. Coker's Angela Luna finished ninth with 239 while LMU's Abigail Evans and L-R's Abbey Hartsell each carded 240 to tie for 10th place and complete the SAC All-Tournament second team.
Tomassoni finishes in the top-10 of the conference championship for a second straight year.
Tusculum senior Ciara Rattana posted a final round 80 to shoot a tournament total 243 to tie for 15th place in her final league championship event.
TC junior Taylor White wrapped up her final round of the year with an 86 to finish with 259 and tie for 42nd place. Freshman Mackenzie Butler posted a three-round score of 279 to place 52nd.
