Pioneers listed 14th in NCAA South Region Women's Golf Poll

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum women's golf team is listed 14th in this year's inaugural NCAA Division II South Region rankings.

The South Region is comprised of teams from Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Sunshine State Conference.

There will be two more regional rankings before the final selection for regional play on April 30.

The top-12 teams within each region and top six individuals not from those teams will qualify for postseason play.  These 12 teams include automatic qualifiers from each of the five conferences in the South Region and seven at-large berths.

The NCAA Division II Women's South Regional will be played May 7-9 at the Germantown (Tenn.) Country Club. That will be one of four super regionals before the national championship, which will be May 16-19 at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.

The national champion has come from the South Region in 17 of the last 18 seasons, including Barry who won the title last year. Lynn won the national championship in 2013 and 2014 while Nova Southeastern won it four consecutive seasons from 2009-2012. Rollins has won the national title six times and Florida Southern has won it four times.

Nova Southeastern sits atop the South Region ranking and is followed by Saint Leo. Barry, Florida Southern and Flagler to comprise the top-five. Lynn is sixth, followed by Rollins, Lee, Wingate, Florida Tech, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone, West Georgia and Tusculum.

The Pioneers will open play this Sunday at the South Atlantic Conference Championship in Elgin, South Carolina at The Members Club at Woodcreek, who hosted last year's NCAA South Regional.  The winner of this year's SAC Championship will earn an automatic bid to the South Regional.
