Tusculum ties for 6th at Wingate Challenge

MONROE, N.C. --- The Tusculum women's golf team finished with a two-day score of 646 to tie for sixth place at the 2018 Wingate Challenge held at the par-72, 5,968-yard Rolling Hills Country Club.

The Pioneers carded a final round 317 to climb one spot up the leaderboard and match Catawba's two-round tally of 646.  TC improved by a dozen strokes from Monday's first round 329.

Lenoir-Rhyne shot a tournament-low score of 303 on Tuesday to finish with 615 to claim the team championship and win by 10 strokes over runner-up and host Wingate (625).  North Georgia and Young Harris finished tied for third place with 632, while Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top-five with 639.

Tusculum and Catawba were sixth at 646, followed by Coker (649), Belmont Abbey (653), King (663) and Pfeiffer (700).

Lenoir-Rhyne's Ainee O'Connor carded the round of the tournament with her three-under par 69 to finish with 149 (+5) and force a playoff with King's Nicola Robertson.  O'Connor scored a par on the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors.

The Tusculum duo of Cydney Murrell and Ciara Rattana tied for 12th place honors finishing with 155.  Murrell fired a final round 75 as she tallied 15 pars and three bogeys on the day.  Rattana shot 76 as she scored two birdies, 10 pars and six bogeys for her final round.

Tusculum's Taylor White tied for 42nd place with 170, while Katie Tomassoni placed 47th with 173.  Freshman Mackenzie Butler improved eight shots on her opening round with a season-best 83 to shoot 174 and finish tied for 49th place.

The Pioneers return home next Monday and Tuesday when they host the Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills Country Club.
