Pioneers shoot 311 to finish third at Barton Invitational at Kiawah

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- The Tusculum duo of Ciara Rattana and Katie Tomassoni each carded rounds of 75 as the Pioneers shot 311 to finish with a two-day score of 628 and finish third at the 2018 Barton Invitational at Kiawah.  The event, hosted by Barton College, was held at the par 72, 5,845-yard Oak Point Golf Club.

Florida Southern, the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division II, won the event as the Lady Mocs fired a final round 306 to finish with 619, three shots in front of runner-up and 14th-ranked Wingate (622).  The Pioneers were third, 10 shots clear of No. 33 Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson as the two teams tied for fourth place with 638.

UNC Pembroke finished sixth with 640, followed by No. 23 Limestone (642), Lincoln Memorial (648), Newberry (657) and No. 40 Queens University of Charlotte (663) to round out the top-10.  Belmont Abbey was 11th with 664, followed by Catawba (677), Converse (687), Barton (688), Southern Wesleyan (696) and Chowan (739).

Rattana and Tomassoni finished in a tie for fifth place honors as they matched each other in both rounds with scores of 79-75=154.  Tomassoni records her fourth top-five finish in her six events this year, while Rattana posts her second top-five showing this.

Taylor White finished tied for 16th place with 77-80=157, while Cydney Murrell shot 82-81=163 to tie for 30th.  TC freshman Mackenzie Butler made a 14-shot improvement from Saturday round as she shot 85 to finish with 184 and placed 74th.

First round leader Maddison Corley of UNC Pembroke, had to hold off a furious charge by LMU's Dominika Czudkova as she posted the round of the tournament with her four-under par 68 to force a playoff.  Corley captured medalist honors on the first hole of sudden death to claim the individual crown.  Corley and Czudkova finished the event with totals of 148.

Tusculum returns to action Feb. 26-27 as they travel to Fleming Island, Florida for the LMU Spring Kickoff.
