GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Three student-athletes have committed to attend Tusculum and play golf for the Pioneers announced TC women's coach Adam Buie. Joining the Pioneers next fall are Jacque Butler, Olivia Cunningham and Lauryn Munn.
Butler, a product from Milan, Ohio, completed her senior season this fall at Edison High School. Butler was a member of Edison's 2016 state championship team with sister and current Pioneer Mackenzie Butler. This past fall, she led Edison back to the State tournament where her team finished seventh in the event held at the Ohio State University Grey Course. She finished 17th individually at the State championship with rounds of 81-83=164. She earned All-Sandusky Bay Conference first team honors and was a Northwest District second team choice. Butler was an SBC All-Academic honoree and is very involved in campus life lettering in cheerleading and volunteered with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Erie County, Teen Leadership Corps and the Autism Spectrum Kids Program. She is also the sister of former Pioneer and current Tusculum graduate assistant coach Lindsay Butler.
Cunningham, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, is a three-time TSSAA State qualifier at Father Ryan High School. She is currently the No. 6 ranked golfer in the State of Tennessee for 2018 according Junior Golf Scoreboard. She won the Master 2-Day at Old Fort with rounds of 75-75=150 and finished runner-up at the Tennessee National with a two-day score of 74-73=147. She also finished fourth at the Willowbrook event with a two-round total 75-77=152 and recorded a hole-in-one in the Montgomery Bell Tournament. Cunningham has shined off the course as well where she is an honor roll student and is a member of the National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society and received an award for high marks on the National Latin Exam. She is a volunteer at the St. Thomas West Hospital and serves as a peer mentor and a student ambassador.
Munn, a local product from Newport, Tennessee, is wrapping up her prep career at Cocke County High School. Munn carded a 76 at the 2017 Regional Tournament at The Country Club in Morristown to help her team advance to the State Tournament. She earned a pair of victories on the SNEDS Tour with wins in Morristown and the Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport where she fired 77-85=162. She is also a strong student and is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a 2017 Teen Board of Knoxville presenter. Her swing coach is former All-South Atlantic Conference honoree and Tusculum alum Sasha Catron.
"This incoming freshmen class is outstanding on many levels. Each brings something unique to the table as well as being strong academically," said Buie. "We are looking for people that are going to be good golfers, students, and teammates and all three of these young ladies exemplify those traits. I see this group being the base of the team going forward as currently we have seven juniors/seniors on our roster. All three of these ladies have great attitudes and mindsets and each is very skilled athletically. Each of them have improved with each passing year of high school and junior golf so that translates well to the college game. I am thrilled that they will become members of the Tusculum Golf family."
Tusculum, located in Greeneville, Tennessee, is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference.
