Tomassoni, Pioneers grab first round lead at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. --- Tusculum's Katie Tomassoni posted a one-over par 73 to grab a share of the first round lead, while the Pioneers have the outright team lead after Monday's 302 at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.

The two-day, 36-hole event is being held at the Ocean Ridge Plantation – Panther Run Course.

Tusculum has a one shot lead over second place Wingate (315) and is seven shots clear of Lenoir-Rhyne (309).

Tomassoni cards her third consecutive round of 73, matching the back-to-back 73s she posted to win last week's Bob Dibble Classic.  Tomassoni, who started on the 10th hole, fired a two-under par 34 on her first nine, including an eagle three on the par-five 16th hole.

Tomassoni shares the first round lead with Wingate's Diana McDonald and Dominika Czudkova of Lincoln Memorial who also shot 73.

Tusculum senior Ciara Rattana is one shot behind with her two-over 74 as her round included three birdies, five bogeys and 11 pars.  She is in a three-way tie for fourth place with defending South Atlantic Conference champion Abbey Hartsell and Mount Olive's Linn Bergman.

TC junior Cydney Murrell is two strokes out of the lead with her three-over par 75.  Murrell's round was steady, including three bogeys and 15 pars.  Murrell is tied with the Wingate duo of Laura Rodriguez and Sam Fritzinger.

Tusculum junior Taylor White shot an 80 and is tied for 39th place, while Magginella Basile shot an 87 and is tied for 70th.  Senior Sayre Hopper, who played as an individual competitor, shot 93 and is locked in at 81st.

In the team competition, West Georgia and Queens University of Charlotte are tied for fourth place with 310.  UNC Pembroke is sixth with 311, while the trio of LMU, Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey are tied for seventh place with 315.  Columbus State is 10th with 318, followed by Newberry (324), Coker (328), Barton (330), Catawba (332), Southern Wesleyan (348), Chowan (359) and Sandhills (394).

The final round on the par-72, 5,937-yard layout will be decided on Tuesday.
