Tomassoni, Tusculum wins Bob Dibble Classic titles

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum junior Katie Tomassoni captured medalist honors by a single stroke to lead the Pioneers to the 2017 Bob Dibble Classic title Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.

Formerly known as the TC Fall Classic, Tusculum wins its third straight Dibble Classic championship and fifth overall in the 12-year history of the event.

The Pioneers finished with a two-day score of 605, including Tuesday's final round 307 to win by 24 shots over runner-up Milligan (629).

Tomassoni posted back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish with a 36-hole total of 146 to edge teammate and runner-up Ciara Rattana who followed Monday's 71 with a 76 to shoot 147 (+3).  For Tomossoni, it was her second career medalist title as she won last year's Etowah Intercollegiate championship.

It also exacted some demons from last year for Tomassoni when she tied for first place honors at last year's event but lost in a scorecard playoff.

Joining Tomassoni and Rattana on the Dibble Classic All-Tournament Team are Sarah Son (76-75=151) of Milligan,  Mars Hill's Janie Gooch (78-76=154) and Tusculum junior Taylor White (73-82=155).

Mars Hill finished third in the team competition with 681, followed by Christian Brothers (673), Tusculum B (692) and Brevard (704).

Tusculum junior Cydney Murrell took eight shots off her first round score with her 76 to finish with 160 and tied for eighth place.  Sophomore Maggienella Basile rounded out the Tusculum scoring with her 81-84=165 to finish 14th.

Senior Sayre Hopper was the top finisher for Tusculum B as she finished with 172, including a final round 84.  Freshman Mackenzie Butler and junior Kelsey Haun tied for 21st place with 173.  Junior Trista Holder was 25th with her 89-88=177, while freshman Meredith Barton posted 92-86=178 to finish in sole possession of 26th place.

The Pioneers return to action next week (Oct. 2-3) for the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
