GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The King University women's golf team led wire-to-wire to win the 20th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial. The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the 5,910-yard, par-72 Link Hills Country Club and hosted by Tusculum College.
The tournament opened on Monday with play being suspended at 12:30 p.m. due to heavy rains and saturated course conditions. The first round resumed on Tuesday morning with King and Coker sharing the first round lead with 306. The Tornado put the tournament away by firing a 304 to finish with a 36-hole tally of 610, to win by 10 strokes over runner-up Wingate (311-309=620).
Leading the charge for King was redshirt freshman Fiona Hebbel, who also led wire-to-wire following her 73-70=143 (-1). She won by seven shots over Tiffany Elam (Anderson) and Katie Kasper (Wingate), who tied for second place with 150. Pfeiffer individual competitor Meghan Holbrooks finished fourth, while Anderson's Kate Hill tied for fifth place to round out the All-Tournament team.
Coker finished third with 306-316=622, while the host Pioneers were fourth with 321-311=632. Lenoir-Rhyne was fifth with 317-316=633, followed by Lincoln Memorial (635), Queens (648), Belmont Abbey (651), Catawba (655), Newberry (661), Spartanburg Methodist (679), North Greenville (690) and Tusculum B (702).
Tusculum's Katie Tomassoni was the top-finisher for the Pioneers as she carded 82-73=155 to finish 11th. Ciara Rattana tied for 15th place with 74-83=157, while Cydney Murrell finished 25th with 83-77=160. Senior Taylor Lambertsen, playing in her final McAmis Memorial, tied for 33rd place with 82-79=161, while Taylor White rounded out the TC scoring with 86-82=168.
Kelsey Haun led the Tusculum B team with back-to-back round of 87-87=174 to finish in 62nd place. Senior Lindsay Butler tied for 63rd place with 90-85=175, matching the two-day score of freshman teammate Maggienella Basile (89-86=175). Trista Holder tied for 68th place with 88-90=178, while Sayre Hopper posted 96-91=187 to finish 72nd.
The Pioneers will host the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Championship at Link Hills, beginning this Sunday morning. It will be the first time TC has hosted the SAC Championship and will be the final home event for Tusculum head coach Bob Dibble, who will be retiring next month.
