Tomassoni finishes runner-up, Pioneers third at Wingate Intercollegiate Challenge

MONROE, N.C. --- Tusculum's Katie Tomassoni garnered runner-up honors, losing in a playoff at the 2017 Wingate Intercollegiate Challenge, which was held at Rolling Hills Country Club.

Tomassoni posted a two-day total of 154, including Tuesday's final round 79 as she tied with Christie Blaurock of Young Harris.  Blaurock drained a 30-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to capture medalist honors.

Tusculum finished third in the team competition with a 36-hole score of 647, including 330 in the final round.  Host Wingate rallied from a four-shot deficit with Tuesday's final round 317 to shoot 638 and win by three strokes over runner-up Queens.  Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne tied for third place honors with 647, followed by Young Harris (648), King (655), Coker (667), Lincoln Memorial (660) and Barton (690).

Joining Blaurock and Tomassoni on this year's All-Tournament Team are: Laura Nunez (Wingate), Mikaela Hadaway (Wingate), Abbey Hartsell (Lenoir-Rhyne), Diana McDonald (Wingate), Natalie Pleyerova (Queens) and Cameryn Smith (Queens).

Tusculum's Ciara Rattana finished one stroke away from a spot on the All-Tournament Team as she posted 77-82=159.  Taylor Lambertsen tied for 30th with 82-85=167, while Taylor White carded back-to-back rounds of 84 to shoot 168 (T32).  Cydney Murrell posted 83-88=171 to tie for 39th place.

The TC duo of Maggienella Basile and Lindsay Butler played as individual competitors.  Baisle posted a nine-shot improvement with Tuesday's 84 to shoot 177 over the two-day event.  Butler shot 182 to finish 47th.

The Pioneers next two tournaments will be played at home at Link Hills Country Club, including the Agnes McAmis Memorial, which will be held Apr. 3-4.  This year's McAmis will have special meaning as it will be the final regular season home tournament for Tusculum head coach Bob Dibble, who will be retiring this May.  Dibble has been the golf coach at TC for 28 years, including all 20 seasons of the women's golf program.

Tusculum will also serve as host of the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be held at Link Hills Apr. 9-11.
