Former Pioneer qualifies for LPGA Tour event

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. --- Former Tusculum College standout Emee Herbert has qualified to compete at the LPGA Kingsmill Championship, which will be held Thursday through Sunday at Williamsburg, Virginia.

Herbert shot a two-over-par 73 in an 18-hole qualifier Monday to capture one of the two available spots in the field for her first LPGA event. Her score was achieved in windy conditions on the River Course at Kingsmill and was the best of the approximately two dozen players who attempted to play their way into the $1.3 million event.

The native of Johns Creek, Georgia played two seasons for the Pioneers, earning South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2011-12 and SAC Player of the Year in 2012-13. She was twice a top-five finisher at the SAC Championship and holds the Tusculum career record with a stroke average of 76.81 in 43 rounds, good for second-best in conference history. She also has two of the top 10 single-season stroke averages in conference history, averaging 76.71 as a freshman to rank fifth and 76.95 as a sophomore which ranks eighth all-time in the SAC.

As a freshman, Herbert was ranked in the top 50 in the Golfweek Magazine world amateur rankings after she finished in the top 20 in 10 of her 11 events, including eight top-10 finishes and four in the top five. She placed third in the SAC Championship and ninth at the NCAA Division II South Regional, while finishing in the top 50 in seven different categories in the final Golfstat Division II statistical report.

In her sophomore season, Herbert finished in the top 20 in seven of her nine events, including six top-10 finishes and five in the top five. She had three runner-up finishes, and placed fourth at the SAC Championship to earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament first team for a second time. Herbert also participated in the NCAA II South Regional for a second straight season, where she finished in 37th place.

Herbert completed her collegiate career at Division I Coastal Carolina University, where she averaged 76.55 strokes per round as a junior and 76.38 as a senior and was named All-Big South. Her career average of 76.46 is eighth-best all-time for the Chanticleers.
