KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- The Florida Southern women's golf team fired an opening day 305 to take the first round lead at the 14th annual Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36-hole event is being held at the par-72, 5,825-yard Cougar Point Golf Club.

The Lady Mocs are making a bid to become the third team to repeat as champions at one of the premier NCAA Division II women's golf tournaments in the country. Florida Southern won back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009, while Lynn University won consecutive Kiawah Intercollegiate events in 2012 and again in 2013. The Lady Mocs are the defending champions and are looking to win this event for a fifth time.

Sitting just six shots off the pace is Armstrong State who posted a 311, led by Pamela Mosley's one-over par 73 who shares the first day lead with Lenoir-Rhyne's Abbey Hartsell.

West Alabama is third with 315, Lincoln Memorial is fourth with 318 and there is a four-way tie for fifth place with 324 including Converse, Faulkner, Pfeiffer and UNC Pembroke. Wingate is ninth with 326, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne (328), Newberry (329), Carson-Newman (331), Belmont Abbey (332), Anderson (335), Tusculum (340) and Barton (351).

West Alabama's Jessica Smyth is in third place with 74, just one shot off the leaders. Belmont Abbey's Kaitlyn Gribbon and Florida Southern's Collen Panosian each shot 75 and are tied for fourth place.

Tusculum sophomore Ciara Rattana shot 79 and is tied for 23rd place and represents the low-round for the Pioneers. Senior Calley Lawson posted an 84 and is in 51st place, while Taylor Lambertsen is 56th with an 86. Katie Tomassoni (91 - 72nd) and Lindsay Butler (93 - 78th) round out the team scoring for Tusculum. Cydney Murrell (81 - 29th) and Kelsey Haun (90 - 71st) played as individual competitors.

The final round of the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate will be held on Sunday.
