Shynese Whitener was named to the Tusculum College coaching staff in summer 2016 and serves as a graduate assistant with the women's basketball program.

Whitener played her collegiate career at Tusculum from 2012-2016 where she garnered All-South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division All-Southeast Region honors.  During her career, she scored 1,221 points which are the 13th most in program history and is only one of 16 members of the Tusculum 1,000-point club. 

She amassed 287 career assists, which are the ninth-most in Tusculum history and her 214 career steals are tied for the fourth-most ever by a Pioneer.  Whitener is also listed in the TC record book's top-10 in field goals made (480 - 9th), field goal attempts (1215 - 6th) and career free throw percentage (.787).

During her final Tusculum season, the 2016 All-SAC first team selection was honored as the conference statistical champion inin scoring average (18.1 ppg - 4th in SE Region/43rd in NCAA II) and steals (3.16 spg - 1st in SE Region/8th in NCAA II).  She also led the conference in minutes played (38.3 per game), while ranking seventh in free-throw percentage (79.4 percent) and eighth in assists per game (3.2). Whitener also averaged 5.2 rebounds per game and connected on 18 three-pointers to rank third on the team in each category.

Whitener scored in double figures in 23 of the Pioneers' 25 games in her senior season, including 11 performances of 20 or more points. Early in the season, Whitener became the first Pioneer in six years to score at least 20 points in five consecutive games. She also had at least one steal in 23 of the Pioneers' 25 games, including five games of at least six thefts. Whitener played every minute in 13 games of her final collegiate season, including a career-high 45 minutes in an 82-73 overtime win over Wingate, and had two separate stretches in which she played three consecutive games without leaving the court for a substitute.
