Pioneers move up to third in D2SIDA Southeast Region poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team has moved up to third in the Southeast Region in the latest D2SIDA regional poll, released Monday.

The Pioneers (5-1) defeated Johnson & Wales 109-53 in their only game of the week, but jumped two spots past Carson-Newman and Lander into third behind North Georgia and Anderson. Five of the 10 teams in the rankings last week lost at least once, including top-ranked Anderson which fell to Lander 77-70.

North Georgia (6-0) moved into first following wins over Life (84-62) and Carson-Newman (67-62), with Anderson (4-1) in second place and Tusculum in third. Limestone (4-0) moved up five positions after beating Lander 82-69, with Barton (4-1) up two spots to fifth after beating Erskine 78-48.

Lander (3-2) slid two spots to sixth, while Carson-Newman (4-2) plummeted from third to seventh following losses to Clayton State (78-68) and North Georgia. Catawba (4-0) remained eighth following a 100-51 victory over Lees-McRae, while Wingate (4-2) slipped three notches from sixth to ninth after a 62-54 loss to Lincoln Memorial. Clayton State (4-3), which lost to Life 61-60 after the win over Carson-Newman, holds on to tenth place in the poll.

Voting in the D2SIDA poll is conducted by selected media relations directors representing the three conference in the Southeast Region – the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

Both the D2SIDA and WBCA Division II Top 25 Women's Basketball Polls will be released on Tuesday. The Pioneers host Lenoir-Rhyne in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Arena.
