Pioneers climb to fifth in D2SIDA Southeast Region rankings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team climbed three spots to fifth in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region Women's Basketball regional poll, released Monday.

The Pioneers (4-1) won two of their three games last week, including a 93-62 victory Tuesday night over Clayton State, which began last week ranked sixth in the region. Tusculum then beat Georgia College 74-52 before losing 75-55 to second-ranked North Georgia on Saturday.

The top four teams in this week's rankings are unchanged, as Anderson (4-0), North Georgia (4-0), Carson-Newman (4-0) and Lander (2-1) all had perfect weeks. Wingate (3-1) follows the Pioneers in sixth, followed by Barton (3-1), poll newcomers Catawba (3-0) and Limestone (3-0) in eighth and ninth, respectively, and Clayton State (3-2) in tenth.

Voting in the D2SIDA poll is conducted by selected media relations directors representing the three conference in the Southeast Region – the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

Tusculum will return home to face Johnson & Wales (N.C.) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Arena in the team's only action of the week.
