An exchange of three-pointers by the Pioneers' Mya Belton and the Crusaders' Downing left Tusculum up 16-14 with 4:37 left in the half, and neither team would score the rest of the quarter as Tusculum was 0-for-5 with two turnovers and Belmont Abbey missed eight shots and turned the ball over twice.

The scoring drought finally ended on a foul shot by Spivey in the first minute of the second half, and Johnson made the first field goal for either team in more than five minutes as she drilled a three-pointer for a 19-15 Tusculum lead with 9:24 left in the third quarter. The teams then went ice-cold again to start the fourth quarter, with a foul shot from Sutton accounting for the only point for either squad over the first 4 1/2 minutes. Meanwhile, the Crusaders shot just 2-for-12 from the field in the final quarter and missed all six of their three-point attempts. A basket by Belmont Abbey's Alexis Schulz with 4:55 to play was her team's lone field goal in the quarter until Downing scored in the final seconds to set the final margin.

Spivey was the only player in double figures for the Crusaders, who received a game-high 13 rebounds and nine points from Downing on 3-for-12 shooting.
