Pioneers seventh in NCAA Southeast Region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team is ranked seventh in the Southeast Region in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings, released Wednesday.

The Pioneers slipped one spot after losing to Carson-Newman 73-71 last Wednesday, then beating Coker 59-35 on Saturday. Barton moved up a spot to sixth following a win over King in their only game last week.

Anderson continues to hold down the top spot in the regional rankings, with Carson-Newman moving up one position to second following their win over the Pioneers. North Georgia also moved up a spot to third, with Wingate dropping two spots to fourth after losing to Newberry.

Lander remains fifth in the region, followed by Barton and Tusculum in sixth and seventh, respectively. Clayton State stays eighth, with Flagler and Emmanuel holding onto ninth and tenth, respectively. All games played through Sunday, Feb. 24 were considered in this week's rankings.

A total of eight teams will be selected for the Southeast Region championship, which will be hosted by the top seed starting with quarterfinals on Friday, March 15. The regional semifinals will be played Saturday, March 16 with the regional championship game on Monday, March 18.

The postseason tournament champions of the SAC, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference will receive automatic berths in the Southeast Region championship, with the remaining five teams selected on an at-large basis using the established criteria.

The NCAA regional rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will continue to be released each week by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections on Sunday, March 10.
