Pioneers fall to seventh in D2SIDA Southeast Region poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team is tied for seventh in this week's D2SIDA Southeast Region poll, through games of Feb. 3.

The Pioneers (14-6) lost 55-46 to regional number-one Anderson on Wednesday, then picked up a 71-63 victory at Newberry on Saturday. Tusculum, which dropped from sixth place in last week's ranking, is tied with Belmont Abbey (15-6) which defeated Mount Olive and Emmanuel last week.

Anderson (19-2) holds down the top spot unanimously again this week after wins over Tusculum and Wingate, the latter dropping the Bulldogs (15-5) from second to third in the poll behind Lander (15-5) which climbed to second from fourth. Carson-Newman (16-5) is fourth this week, with North Georgia (15-4) down two positions to fifth.

Barton (17-4) is ranked sixth, followed by Tusculum and Belmont Abbey tied for seventh. Flagler (14-5) is ninth, and Newberry (13-7) returned to the rankings in tenth despite the loss to the Pioneers.

Tusculum will host Hiwassee (18-1) on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. for Education Day at Pioneer Arena, then will visit Queens on Saturday 2 p.m.
