Three wins boost Pioneers two spots in D2SIDA Southeast Region poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team climbed two spots to seventh in the latest D2SIDA Division II Southeast Region rankings, through games of Jan. 6.

The Pioneers (9-2, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) won three games last week to extend their overall winning streak to five games. Tusculum defeated Bluefield State 94-36 on Wednesday evening, beat Livingstone 76-56 on Thursday afternoon, and won 66-45 at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon.

Tusculum is one of five SAC schools in this week's rankings, including Anderson (12-2) which took over the number-one spot in the poll following road wins over Wingate at Coker. North Georgia (8-2) slipped to second after a road loss at UNC Pembroke, while Newberry (10-1), Carson-Newman (11-3) and Wingate (9-4) maintained positions three through five.

Lander (8-4) also jumped two spots from last week into sixth place, followed by Tusculum, Barton (11-3), which fell two spots from sixth, poll newcomer USC Aiken (8-4) and Columbus State (6-3), which dropped three positions after a loss to USC Aiken.

The Pioneers will begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday night when Mars Hill visits Pioneer Arena for a 6 p.m. contest.
