Pioneers drop to 10th in D2SIDA Southeast Region rankings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team is ranked 10th in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region rankings, through games of December 2.

The Pioneers (4-2) dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference road games last week to fall six positions in the poll. Tusculum lost 67-54 at Anderson on Wednesday, then fell at Catawba on Saturday by a score of 64-51.

There was a great deal of volatility in this week's rankings, with no team remaining in the same position as last week, and three teams moving four spots or more in the poll. Tusculum is one of five SAC teams in this week's rankings, up from four the week before.

North Georgia is the top team is this week's rankings, followed by Wingate and a tie for third between Carson-Newman and Barton. Newberry checks in at fifth, with Lander in sixth and former top-ranked team Columbus State all the way down in seventh. Anderson and Clayton State enter this week's rankings at eighth and ninth, respectively, with Tusculum rounding out the poll in 10th.

The Pioneers do have victories over two teams that are regionally ranked by D2SIDA this week -- Clayton State by a 65-62 score on Nov. 15 and Virginia State, ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region, by a 74-48 margin on Nov. 19.

The Pioneers will be home to play Newberry on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Arena in their only action this week.
