Pioneers return to D2SIDA Southeast Region rankings

DURANGO, Colo. --- The Tusculum women's basketball team is ranked ninth in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region media poll, through games of February 11.

The Pioneers (15-6, 10-5 SAC) returned to the rankings after earning a pair of victories last week, winning 100-39 against Mars Hill on Wednesday and 66-50 at Coker on Saturday. The win over Coker clinched Tusculum's first berth in the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship tournament since the 2012-13 season.

Carson-Newman (23-1) continues to be the unanimous number-one team in the D2SIDA Southeast Region poll, followed by Wingate (19-3) and North Georgia (21-3). Lander (18-5) switched places with Limestone (19-4) for fourth and fifth, respectively, as did Barton (18-6) and Belmont Abbey (17-7) for sixth and seventh. Flagler (14-7) stayed in eighth place in this week's poll, followed by Tusculum and Georgia College (15-8), which slipped one spot from ninth to 10th.

The first NCAA Division II regional rankings of the season will be released later this week. The NCAA regional rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will be released each week by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections.

Tusculum will visit Carson-Newman on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and host Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday at 2 p.m. in this week's action. The Pioneers have five regular-season games remaining prior to the start of the SAC Women's Basketball Championship tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
