Women's BASKETBALL'S JASMINE GUNN NETS DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION HONORS

Jasmine Gunn HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Tusculum's Jasmine Gunn has been named to the 2008-09 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Women's Basketball Second Team, announced College officials Tuesday.

Gunn, a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference First Team honoree, has put together an impressive season to follow her SAC Freshman of the Year campaign of last year, leading the Pioneers in points (15.3), assists (5.9), steals (2.0), free throw percentage (82.5), and 20-point games (9). The 5-0 guard has emerged as the perennial point guard in the conference the past two seasons, owning the second-highest assist average in the league which is also 11th-best in the nation.

Headlining the All-Southeast Region First Team is Columbus State's Phoebe Smith, who was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year. She is joined on the first team all-Southeast Region by Barton's Esty Flores, North Georgia's Syretha Marble, Wingate's Anna Atkinson, and Newberry's Laura Marquardt. Joining Gunn on the second team are Francis Marion's Kevina Ransom, Armstrong Atlantic State's Lacey Willis, Mount Olive's Jasmine Whitby and Queens' Marissa Hudley.

Tusculum begins its run in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships on Friday when the second-seeded Pioneers (25-5) take on seventh-seeded Lander University (20-10) in the quarterfinal round of the Southeast Regional, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Shuford Memorial Gym in Hickory, N.C.
