Pioneers send group to Lee Last Chance Meet

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- Eight members of the Tusculum University men's and women's track & field team competed at the Lee Last Chance Meet on Saturday afternoon.

Tusculum had top-10 finishes in four of the six events in which it competed in Saturday's meet, which is the last chance for athletes to improve on their entry times for the upcoming NCAA Division II Championship, which will be held May 26-28 at Grand Rapids, Mich.

Declarations for the NCAA Division II Championship will be posted Monday, May 16 by 3 p.m. Final entries will be posted by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17. Entering Saturday's action, Tusculum had five individuals (four men, one woman) and a men's relay on the qualifying list.

MEN'S RECAP
Tusculum advanced three runners to the semifinals of the 100 meters, led by Marquel Pittman who placed seventh overall with a time of 10.53 seconds that is 10th-fastest in program history. Jarvis Barber Jr. was 10th overall at 10.61 seconds and Gerard Hearst ran 10.67 seconds in the semifinals to place 13th overall. Devan Hart also competed and ran 10.87 seconds in preliminaries.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Hart, Barber, Pittman and Hearst was fourth overall in 41.28 seconds, the 10th-best time in program history. In the 400 hurdles, David Saruni was ninth in 54.46 seconds, which is his second-best time of the season and the fourth-best in Tusculum history. Also competing was Xavion Bogus, who ran 2:04.10 to knock a second off his previous season-best time.

WOMEN'S RECAP
South Atlantic Conference champion Shanee Angol placed seventh overall in the javelin with a top mark of 40.78 meters (133 feet, 9 inches), her second-best throw of the season and fifth-best of her Tusculum career.

In the 400 hurdles, Kenisha Stubbs ran 1:06.63 and took 12th place overall. Her time was her third-best of the season and ranks sixth on the program top 10 list in the event.
