Three individual wins highlight competition at Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the Wofford Terrier Relays on Saturday, winning three individual events.

Guillaume Devries won the men's high jump and earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark with a height of 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches (2.05 meters). Tusculum swept the 5000 meters as Will Cronin won the men's event with a time of 15:20.32 and Nicole McMillen took first place for the women in 17:49.32.

MEN
Devries entered the high jump competition at 1.95 meters as one of four left in the field. He successfully cleared each of his first six jumps before being knocked out while trying to clear 2.10 meters. Teammate Nick Jackson tied for third in the event at 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2 3/4 inches).

Cronin won his section of the 5000 by 11.3 seconds and broke his own school record with a time of 15:20.32, eventually winning the competition by 7.17 seconds. Kyler Hodges was eighth in 15:54.22, T.J. Tupps placed 11th in 16:13.05 and Carson Walls was 15th overall in 16:41.60.

Widchard Guervil joined Devries in earning an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark as he finished third overall in the 200 meters with a time of 21.35 seconds, with Kedar Ashford finishing ninth in 22.30 seconds. In the 100 meters, Gibran Williams took ninth place in 10.93 seconds.

The Tusculum 4x100-meter relay team of Williams, Althiery Leontes, Gerard Hearst and Ashford finished second overall in 41.58 seconds, while the 4x400 team of Leontes, Kyle Stanley, Tyree Hilliard and Jaydon Johnson placed seventh in 3:30.29.

In the field, the Pioneers broke four school records and established a fifth during competition. On Friday, Christian Sisto broke his own school record and placed 15th overall in the shot put with a throw of 13.48 meters (44 feet, 2 3/4 inches). On Saturday, Michael Peppin took 14th in the discus with a school-record throw of 39.85 meters (130 feet, 9 inches) and Nicholas Sisto bettered his own record in the javelin with a sixth-place distance of 142 feet, 1 inch (43.32 meters).

Luis Morris became the first Pioneer to compete in the pole vault outdoors and took seventh place with a mark of 4.00 meters (13 feet, 1 1/2 inches).

WOMEN
McMillen's time in the 5000 was one of five school records broken at Wofford, with three more records established during the weekend competition. Running in the first section, McMillen's time of 17:49.32 was just over 20 seconds ahead of the runner-up and 48 seconds better than the school record. Alissa Furches, who held the previous school record in the event, also ran in the first section and placed sixth with a time of 19:11.13.

Earthaiza Watkins finished third in the 400 meters and broke the school record with a time of 57.55 seconds, and Ke'Lah McMiller set a new record in the 200 meters and took 12th place in 25.84 seconds. In the 100 hurdles, Brianna Oats took 12th place in 16.70 seconds for the Pioneers. Other top finishers include Yoland Boyce in the 800 meters, with a 10th-place finish in 2:22.06. Kaynashia Carter was 14th in 100 meters at 12.59 seconds.

The Tusculum 4x100-meter relay team of Hailey Cole, I'Keriah Day, Carter and McMiller broke the school record and finished fifth in 47.88 seconds, while the 4x400-meter team of Kesia Griffith, Day, McMiller and Watkins took fourth place in 3:59.70.

In field events, Alyssa Farmer set a school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 33.18 meters (108 feet, 10 inches). Destini Wilson was eighth in the high jump at 1.45 meters (4 feet, 9 inches) and Dynah Dunn took 17th in the shot put at 10.95 meters (35 feet, 11 1/4 inches).
