Pioneers honored on USTFCCCA All-Region team

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Several members of the Tusculum University men's and women's indoor track & field teams have been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with All-Region status for their performances during the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season.

Sophomore Widchard Guervil and junior Guillaume Devries earned All-Region honors on the men's team, while senior Nicole McMillen and members of the women's 4x400-meter relay team were recognized on the women's team.

To earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be one of the top-five individuals in their event in their respective region. In addition, each member of a region's top-three relay teams was also selected for the distinction. Only athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions are eligible for the award.

Guervil was tied for the third-fastest time in the region in the men's 60 meters at 6.79 seconds, earning him a spot in the field for the NCAA Division II Indoor national championship. He also ranked fifth in the 200 meters at 21.58 seconds.

Devries finished second in the high jump at the South Atlantic Conference indoor championships with a height of 2.10 meters (6 feet, 10 3/4 inches) which is tied for second-best in the region this season.

McMillen won the gold medal at the SAC championship in the mile run, and posted a season-best time of 4:58.23 at the USC Open on Feb. 16 that ranked her fourth in the region in the event. She was also ranked fourth in the region in the 3000 meters after posting a time of 10:03.99 at the Gamecock Inaugural on Jan. 19.

Tusculum's 4x400-meter relay team of senior Raygene Minus, sophomore I'Keriah Day, and freshmen Ke'Lah McMiller and Earthaiza Watkins finished second-best in the region with a converted time of 3:54.54, which earned the team a silver medal at the SAC indoor championship meet.
