Cronin, Devries earn fourth-place finishes at Gamecock Inaugural

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Members of the Tusculum University men's and women's indoor track & field teams concluded competition Saturday in the Gamecock Inaugural at the University of South Carolina.

The Pioneers will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia next Friday and Saturday for the Liberty Kickoff Invitational.

MEN
Will Cronin finished fourth in the invitational 5,000 meters and broke his own school record, crossing the line in a time of 15:33.19 which shattered his old record of 16:06.33 set last February at the Dunamis Super Meet.

Cronin led after 1,600 meters in 4:53.19 and was less than a second off the lead at 3,200 meters in 9:53.03. Cronin stayed with the lead pack of four runners until the final 400 meters, and finished less than 13 seconds behind race winner Pol Domenech of Wingate.

Guillaume Devries competed in the invitational high jump and finished fourth with a height of 2.03 meters (6 feet, 8 inches). Devries passed at 6-2 and again at 6-4, then cleared 6-6 on his second attempt. Devries then cleared 6-8 on his first try, but failed at all three attempts at 6-9 3/4 to bow out in fourth place. Draven Crist of North Carolina won the event by clearing 6 feet, 11 3/4 inches on his first try.

In the 800 meters, Kyle Stanley finished 26th overall and turned in the second-best time in program history at 2:01.41. Tusculum's top finishers in the 200 meters were Malek Folston in 43rd place (23.09) and Jamire Thompson in 45th place (23.10).

WOMEN
The Pioneers competed in the 200 meters on Saturday, with Raygene Minus finishing 19th overall and setting a school record with a time of 26.27 seconds. I'Keriah Day, who set the previous record of 26.59 seconds last February at ETSU, improved upon that record by finishing 26th overall in 26.37 seconds.

Hailey Cole (50th, 27.10), Kesia Griffith (52nd, 27.18) and Ke'Lah McMiller (54th, 27.30) also competed for the Pioneers along with Destini Wilson (28.83 seconds) and Brittany Bowery (29.50 seconds).
