Pioneers to open 2019 indoor schedule this weekend at ETSU

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's track and field program will begin its second season of competition this weekend at the ETSU Invitational in nearby Johnson City.

The meet will kick off a schedule of six indoor and six outdoor meets, plus the South Atlantic Conference Championships in February and April.

Following this weekend's action at ETSU, the Pioneers will take a week off before running at the Gamecock Inaugural at the University of South Carolina on the weekend of January 18-19. Tusculum will close out January with a trip to Lynchburg, Virginia for the two-day Liberty Kickoff Invitational on January 25-26.

Tusculum will have a busy start to February with another trip to ETSU for the Buccaneer Invitational on February 1-2, then a visit to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the Queens Indoor Invitational on February 4-5. A return trip to South Carolina for the Indoor Open on February 16 will set up the Pioneers for the 2019 SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be at the JDL Fast Track on February 22-23.

Qualifying athletes will be entered in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by Pittsburg State University on March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Tusculum's outdoor schedule opens with a visit to Lenoir-Rhyne and the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational on March 15-16. The Pioneers will then go to the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina on March 22-23 followed by the one-day Terrier Relays at Wofford University on March 30.

In April, the Pioneers will journey back to Hickory, North Carolina for the Lenoir-Rhyne Classic on April 5-6, then visit Cullowhee, North Carolina on April 12-13 to compete in the Western Carolina Invitational.

Lenoir-Rhyne will be the host for the SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on April 19-20, and the schedule for the spring ends with the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia on April 25-27.

Athletes looking to earn a qualifying time or mark for nationals will have several opportunities, including the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on May 1, the Tennessee Challenge on May 4, the Duke Twilight Meet on May 5 and the Lenoir-Rhyne Final Qualifier on May 12.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship will be hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville from May 23-25.
