Men's indoor track & field selected sixth in SAC poll

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's indoor track and field team has been picked sixth in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll.

The Pioneers were sixth in last year's SAC Indoor Championships in their inaugural season of competition, led by sprinter Widchard Guervil who won the 60 meters with a time of 6.77 seconds. Guervil also finished third in the 200 meters while Jay Boyd had a fourth-place finish in the long jump.

Guervil, a sophomore, is identified as one of the Athletes to Watch for Tusculum in sprints, along with sophomore Jackson Beason in distance events and junior Guillaume Devries in field events.

Defending champion Queens earned the top spot in the poll with 10 first-place votes, followed by Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman and Anderson in the top five. Following Tusculum were Coker in seventh, Catawba in eighth and Lincoln Memorial in ninth, followed by Mars Hill and Newberry.

The 2019 SAC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 23 and 24 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Tusculum opens its 2019 schedule on Friday, Jan. 11 with competition at the two-day ETSU Invitational.
