Pioneer men's 4x100 relay places in top half of deep field at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The Tusculum men's 4x100-meter relay team competed at the 124th Penn Relays Friday afternoon at Franklin Field, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.

The team of Jacob Acklin, Xavier Billups, Kedar Ashford and Widchard Guervil was clocked at 42.25 seconds in its heat, finishing fourth out of nine schools in the heat and 27th out of 65 overall. Finishing ahead of the Pioneers in their heat were teams from Penn State (40.85 seconds), Clemson (41.64) and Mississippi State (41.76).

Tusculum was second among the 10 NCAA Division II entries in the event, finishing behind St. Augustine's which ran 41.68 seconds. Houston will be the top seed in Saturday's college final after running 40.07 seconds in preliminaries.

The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, having been held annually since 1895. More than 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges and track clubs throughout North America and abroad compete in more than 300 events over five days, with attendance regularly topping 100,000 over the final three days of the meet.
