Pioneers participate in Aggie Invitational in final tuneup for SAC

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Members of the Tusculum men's and women's track & Field teams participated in the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T at the Irwin Belk Track.

The Pioneers will begin preparation for the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday, April 19-20 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte.

MEN
The Pioneer field athletes had a good showing in the Aggie Invitational, with Yannick Rosalie finishing fifth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1 1/4 inches), which is the second-best mark in the SAC this season and just shy of the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 14.63 meters.

Evan Grooms posted a pair of season bests, finishing ninth in the hammer with a toss of 34.22 meters (112 feet, 3 inches) and 10th in the discus at 38.61 meters (126 feet, 8 inches). Zach Lane and Christian Sisto tied for 12th in the shot put at 12.20 meters (40 feet, 1/2 inch) and Nicholas Sisto was ninth in the javelin at 38.03 meters (124 feet, 9 inches).

On the track, Jackson Beason placed sixth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:20.95, while J'Quen Johnson finished 12th in the 800 meters at 1:59.08. Jacob Acklin finished 15th in the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 10.88 seconds.

WOMEN
Alissa Furches set a season-best time by nearly eight seconds in finishing sixth overall in the 1500 meters at 5:06.92. Jayla Lewis was 13th overall in the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 12.70 seconds, followed by Autumn Blackwood in 18th place at 13.13 seconds. Wind also cost I'Keriah Day an official season-best time in the 200 meters, as she was clocked in 26.19 seconds with Blackwood running 27.09.

In the 400 meters, Bailey Pruiett had the best time of the season for the Pioneers as she ran 1:01.44, and Hayden Fobare posted a season-best 2:36.42 in the 800 meters. Also setting season bests were Hailey Cole in the 200 meters (27.61 seconds) and Drew Wildman in the 100 meters, with a wind-aided time of 13.79 seconds.

In field events, I'Keriah Day finished 14th overall with a wind-aided mark of 5.07 meters (16 feet, 7 3/4 inches), while Dynah Dunn set season bests in the hammer throw at 30.17 meters (99 feet) for 11th place, and in the shot put at 11.51 meters (37 feet, 9 1/4 inches) for 16th place.
