Men's 4x100 relay team wins at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. --- The Tusculum men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, hosted by the University of South Carolina.

MEN
The Pioneer 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Acklin, Xavier Billups, Althiery Leontes and Widchard Guervil won the event with a time of 41.33 seconds, beating out teams from George Mason, Cornell, Hampton and South Carolina in the field of 10 teams. The time of 41.33 seconds was a season best for the Pioneers and pulled the relay within a quarter-second of the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 41.10 seconds.

Guervil finished second overall in the 100 meters, running 10.48 seconds to slightly improve his NCAA provisional qualifying time. He also ran 21.67 seconds in the 200 meters to finish 12th overall.

In the 5000 meters, Will Cronin finished third overall in the 5000 meters with a season-best time of 15:30.74, followed by Jackson Beason in sixth place at 16:06.25.

Among the season-best times for the Pioneers were Evan Altizer in the 100 meters (11.22 seconds) along with J'Quen Johnson (51.95 seconds) and Malik Tann (54.11 seconds) in the 400 meters.

In field events, Yannick Rosalie finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.51 meters (44 feet, 4 inches), while Zach Lane was seventh in the javelin with a mark of 29.38 meters (96 feet, 4 inches).

WOMEN
Alissa Furches finished fourth overall in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:37.59 and moved into the top 10 on the South Atlantic Conference performance list. The 4x400 meter relay team of Raygene Minus, I'Keriah Day, Kesia Griffith and Bailey Pruiett just missed a season best but finished 10th overall in 4:07.50.

Minus had a team season-best time of 26.83 seconds in the 200 meters, and also set a season best for the team in the 400 meters of 1:01.73, boosting her into the top 10 in the conference. Hayden Fobare also had a season-best time in the 400 meters of 1:08.61.
