Guervil earns two NCAA qualifying marks at Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Tusculum All-American sprinter Widchard Guervil set a meet record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100 meters, and also posted a provisional time in the 200 meters, as the Pioneers competed at the Terrier Relays this weekend, hosted by Wofford.

Guervil's time of 10.49 seconds in the 100 meters is tied for the seventh-fastest in Division II this season, while his 200 meter time of 21.32 seconds put him in a tie for 13th on the performance list. The freshman also anchored the 4x100 relay team of Jacob Acklin, Xavier Billups and Althiery Leontes which finished in third place with a time of 41.67 seconds.

The Pioneer women were led by the 4x400 relay team of Bailey Pruiett, Autumn Blackwood, Kesia Griffith and Raygene Minus which finished in second place with a time of 4:07.13.

MEN
Competing in the 100 meters for the first time in the outdoor season, Guervil blazed to victory in the championship heat with a time of 10.49 seconds, finishing two-tenths of a second ahead of runner-up Reginald Thomas of Tiffin. Thomas had edged Guervil for third place in the 60 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor championships three weeks earlier.

In the 200 meters, Guervil was clocked at 21.32 seconds and finished second in his heat to eventual event winner P.J. Lotharp of Lenoir-Rhyne. J'Quen Johnson finished ninth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:58.56, followed by Malik Tann in 12th at 2:00.08. Jaydon Johnson placed 17th in the 400 hurdles (59.44 seconds) and Jackson Beason finished 16th overall in the 1500 meters at 4:12.11.

Jay Boyd turned in a pair of top-10 performances in jumps for the Pioneers, placing sixth in the long jump at 6.61 meters (21 feet, 8 1/4 inches) and tying for eighth in the high jump at 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10 3/4 inches).

WOMEN
In the 800 meters, Hailey Cole finished eighth overall with a team season-best time of 2:20.84, while the 4x100 relay team of Blackwood, Pruiett, I'Keriah Day and Jayla Lewis took seventh place and had the Pioneers' best time of the season at 50.65 seconds.

Katie MacDonald placed 16th overall in the 800 meters at 2:31.08, with Pruiett finishing 17th in the 400 meters at 1:03.46 and Lewis in 18th in the 100 meters with a time of 12.81 seconds. Dynah Dunn was 15th overall in the shot put, with a best throw of 10.49 meters (34 feet, 5 inches).
