Guervil wins 60 meters at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- Widchard Guervil won the 60 meters and placed fourth in the 200 meters to lead the Tusculum track & field team in competition at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday.

The Pioneers will return to action next weekend at the Liberty Kickoff meet in Lynchburg, Virginia.

MEN
Guervil ran 6.95 in preliminaries to earn the third seed in the finals, then ran 6.87 to beat out runners from a field that included SAC rivals Wingate and Coker along with Division I runners from The Citadel, Davidson and USC Upstate. Guervil had provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor championships with a time of 6.86 seconds last weekend at ETSU..

Guervil also ran in the 200 meters and won his heat with a time of 22.70 seconds, which left him in fourth place by a margin of five-thousands of a second behind the third-place finisher.

Will Cronin finished 20th in the 3000 meters for the Pioneers with a time of 9:35.28, while Jackson Beason turned in a 22nd place finish in the mile with a time of 4:44.60. J'Quen Johnson was 30th in the 400 meters at 53.73 seconds, and in the 800 meters Malik Tann was the top finisher for Tusculum in 2:07.22.

In relays, the distance medley relay team of Beason, Tann, Johnson and Cronin finished 10th with a time of 11:34.24, while the 4x400 relay of Jaydon Johnson, Althiery Leontes, Dezmond Chambers and Guervil was clocked in 3:54.95 for 15th place overall.

In the field, Zach Lane was 19th overall in the shot put with a best throw of 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6 3/4 inches).

WOMEN
The top finishes for the Pioneers came from I'Keriah Day in jumping events. Day was 16th in the long jump with a mark of 5.10 meters (16 feet, 8 3/4 inches) and 19th in the triple jump at 10.09 meters (33 feet, 1 1/4 inches). In the shot put, Dynah Dunn was 15th overall with a throw of 10.75 meters (35 feet, 3 1/4 inches).

On the track, Raygene Minus finished 24th in the 400 meters at 1:03.91, followed by Bailey Pruiett in 32nd place at 1:04.52. In the 200 meters, Minus ran 27.91 seconds and took 34th place, while Briana McDonald was 34th in the 60 meters at 8.30 seconds. Emily Stoklosa was Tusculum's top finisher in the mile run with a time of 5:30.00 that put her in 25th overall.

The distance medley relay team of Stoklosa, Autumn Blackwood, Katie MacDonald and Makenzi Alley took fifth place overall in 14:14.40, while the 4x400 relay quartet of Pruiett, Day, McDonald and Minus finished eighth in 4:30.47.
