WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's and women's indoor track and field teams made history Saturday when they competed at the JDL College Kick-off Classic at the JDL Fast Track.
A total of 14 male and 14 female athletes represented the Pioneers in the meet, which featured teams from nearly two dozen Division I and II colleges and universities.
Tusculum will resume its schedule on January 13 when the Pioneers travel to Johnson City to participate in the ETSU Invitational.
MEN'S RESULTS
The top individual finisher for the Pioneers was Althiery Leontes, who placed 15th in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 8.68 seconds. Reginald Titre-Barnor finished 32nd overall in the 60 hurdles in 9.61 seconds.
In other sprints, Xavier Billups was 36th in the 200 meters (23.36 seconds), while Jaydon Johnson placed 65th in 24.67 seconds. Khalil Green was 26th in the 400 meters (52.63 seconds), followed by Kari Johnson in 27th place (52.99 seconds) and Leontes in 28th at 53.07 seconds.
In the 800 meters, Malik Tann finished in 23rd place with a time of 2:06.33, followed by Titre-Barnor in 25th place at 2:07.63. Isaac Hybarger competed in the mile run and took 33rd place with a time of 5:27.44.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Kari Johnson, Tann, Xavier Hayes and Kedar Ashford finished in 18th place with a time of 3:40.27.
In field events, Zach Lane was the only Pioneer to post a mark as he finished 28th in the shot put with a throw of 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 1/2 inches).
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Emily Stoklosa was the top women's finisher for the Pioneers at the meet, turning in a time of 11:30.93 in the 3000 meters that placed her 13th out of 24 competitors. Katie MacDonald competed in the mile run for Tusculum and was 21st with a time of 6:23.79
The Pioneers were well-represented in sprints, with four finishers in the 60 meters. Jayla Lewis took 45th place at 8.22 seconds, Briana McDonald was 46th at 8.24 seconds, Selena Gauthier finished 65th in 8.58 seconds, and I'Keriah Day took 68th place with a time of 8.66 seconds. In the 60 hurdles, Tusculum's Kiara Pettis finished 33rd in 10.14 seconds.
McDonald also finished 50th in the 200 meters (27.76 seconds) followed by Autumn Blackwood in 52nd place at 27.80 seconds. In the 400 meters, Bailey Pruiett was 30th in 1:02.75, with Kesia Griffith in 36th place at 1:03.75. Tusculum had two runners in the 800 meters, as Tynaja Stewart was clocked in 3:43.57 for 47th place and Brittany Bowery was one spot behind in 48th place at 3:58.83.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Pruiett, Pettis, Day and Lewis, finished in 16th place with a time of 4:35.28.
In field events, the Pioneers had three competitors in the long jump, led by Day who was 27th in 4.70 meters (15 feet, 5 inches), followed by Gauthier in 36th place (4.32 meters or 14 feet, 2 1/4 inches) and Lewis in 38th place (4.27 meters or 14 feet, 1/4 inch).
