ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum women's indoor track & field team has been picked to finish eighth at the inaugural SAC Indoor Championship according to the 2017-2018 Coaches' Poll. The Pioneers received 40 total points in a vote of the conference's 11 head track coaches.
Wingate has been picked to win the first SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Bulldogs picked up eight first place votes and received 107 points. Queens is second in the poll with 102 points and two first place nods. Coker is third with 89 points, edging out Lenoir-Rhyne who is fourth with 88 points and one top vote. Anderson is fifth with 74 points, followed by Carson-Newman (73), Lincoln Memorial (44) Tusculum (40), Mars Hill (38), Catawba (32) and Newberry (27).
The 2017-18 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field season marks the inaugural year for the sport in the conference. The SAC Indoor Championship will be held Feb. 19 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Pioneers had three student-athletes named to the inaugural SAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Watch List including sprinter Selena Gauthier, distance runner Alissa Furches and field honoree I'Keriah Day, who is expected to shine in the long jump and the triple jump.
Tusculum begins its inaugural indoor track & field campaign this Saturday as they compete at the JDL Kickoff Classic in Winston-Salem.
