Freischmidt Tabbed Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- Chloe Freischmidt has earned the Tusculum University softball program its first national weekly honor with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) naming her the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.

Freischmidt collected the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Player of the Week accolade just one day ago.

In Tusculum's four wins, the sophomore catcher finished with a batting average of .545, an on-base percentage of .583, and slugged 1.273. The Naples, Fla. native totaled 11 runs batted in, six hits, five runs scored, two doubles, and two homeruns, along with no errors behind the plate. Both of Freischmidt's homers were with the bases loaded for a pair of grand slams, the first in her collegiate career.

In the series with Cedarville, Freischmidt went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a 2-for-2 outing in game two. She launched her first grand slam as part of her perfect contest in the box, with her remaining hit being a double. For the doubleheader, she scored three runs with six RBI.

Freischmidt may have had the most exciting series of her young career in the matchup with Davis & Elkins. In the first game, she banged another grand slam out of Red Edmonds Field, while in game two, she knocked a game-winning single to left field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

On the season, the sophomore is batting .368 with an on-base percentage of .457, while slugging .684. Freischmidt has totaled 16 RBI, 14 hits, 12 runs scored, five walks, three doubles, three homers, and one stolen base.

The Pioneers are off to their best start in program history with a 12-2 record. Tusculum will open the SAC portion of its schedule on Tuesday (March 3) at UVa-Wise.
