GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University softball will be hosting two teams over the weekend as Cedarville and Lee are scheduled to make their way to Greeneville on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Wednesday's doubleheader at Emmanuel (Ga.) was postponed due to weather concerns. A reschedule date with the Lions has yet to be determined.
RECAPPING THE WEEK
The Pioneers went 2-2 at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational, with wins over Belmont Abbey and an extra-inning thriller at Erskine. The losses were against Lander and No. 5 Young Harris.
Anna Alloway had another dominant week at the plate, averaging .500 with a slugging percentage of 1.000, six hits, two homeruns, and a walk, alongside four runs batted in and three runs scored. Against Erskine, Alloway hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to pull ahead of the Flying Fleet. Grayson Brown added four hits, including a double, four walks, and two runs. Taylor Johnson and Alexis Grampp also launched a homer each, while Brittney Franse (2) and Chloe Freischmidt (1) rounded out the extra base category. Along with Brown's four walks, Grampp (3), Kristen Gass (3), and Claire Crout (2) recorded multiple free-bases.
Individually, Alloway is ranked within the top-25 across the nation in slugging percentage (8th; 1.136), on base percentage (9th; .710), walks per game (15th; 1.00), homeruns per game (17th; .38), batting average (19th; .591), homeruns (21st; 3), and runs batted in per game (22nd; 1.50). Alloway has yet to strike out this season, tying her for first in the country as the toughest to strike out. Grampp is 10th in triples (2) and 12th in triples per game (.25).
LOOKING AHEAD
Cedarville (0-4) and Tusculum will meet for the first time in program history on Friday. The Yellow Jackets began their season losing three of their four games to No. 13 Lincoln Memorial and the remaining game to McKendree. Brooke Miller has totaled four hits in 12 at bats for the Yellow Jackets, including two doubles, while McKenna Smith's four hits have all been singles. Sarah Parsons and Sophia Hevel have both scored a pair of runs to lead the category. Heather Lord and Ashley Bortlein have drawn three walks, followed by two from Annie Rourke. Lucia Eroshevich has thrown the most innings (9.1) in two appearances for Cedarville, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits, six walks, and three strikeouts.
Lee (5-4) will face Carson-Newman on Wednesday before coming to Tusculum. The Flames have two batters to reach double figures in hits: Taylor De Adder (11) and Kayla Louie (10). De Adder has brought in 13 runners, while Lily Hatcher leads with four walks drawn. Hatcher has also recorded eight steals through the team's nine games, 24th nationally. Lulu Vasquez has seen the most action in the circle with 23.1 innings pitched. She has allowed nine earned runs on 20 hits with 12 walks, but has struck out 29 batters for Lee.
