Plemons named AstroTurf SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum's Taylor Plemons has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.

Plemons earns her first SAC weekly honor of her career and becomes the first Tusculum pitcher to be recognized by the league since Elizabeth Johnson in 2013.

Plemons went 2-0 with a save in three appearances during last weekend's Pioneer Classic, helping Tusculum win four out of five games in a span of 34 hours. The junior right-hander from Knoxville, Tennessee threw five-hit shutouts on consecutive days against Belmont Abbey and Goldey-Beacom, and finished the weekend with two earned runs allowed in 15 innings of work.

In her first appearance, Plemons pitched three innings and struck out four while earning her first career save in a 9-5 win over Belmont Abbey in game one of a doubleheader with the Crusaders on Friday. In the second game, Plemons struck out three and scattered five hits as the Pioneers claimed a 10-0 victory in six innings. On Saturday, Plemons returned to the circle against Goldey-Beacom and held the Lightning to five hits while striking out four in an 8-0 victory.

The victories boosted Plemons' record to 5-4 and lowered her earned run average to 3.95 in 13 appearances (10 starts). In 55 innings of work this season, Plemons has struck out 34 and tossed six complete games and three shutouts.

Following Tuesday's twin-bill with New Haven, the Pioneers will open SAC play on Sunday when they host nationally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Red Edmonds Field.
