Rain halts doubleheader at Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. --- Wednesday's South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader between Tusculum and Mars Hill was suspended by rain in the top of the third inning of game one, with the Pioneers leading the Lions 3-1.

Tusculum took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Delaney Guerrero reached on an error, allowing pinch-runner Emily White to score. Taylor Battle then hit her first career home run to extend the Pioneer lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the second, the Lions loaded the bases on three walks by Pioneer starter Taylor Plemons, and scored a run on an error before Plemons retired the next two batters.

The game was stopped with one out in the top of the third and will be completed at a later date from the point of suspension, followed by the second game of the twinbill.

Tusculum's non-conference doubleheader at Virginia-Wise on Thursday was cancelled due to the weather, resulting in the Pioneers returning to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wingate in a SAC twinbill at Red Edmonds Field.
