Lee sweeps pair from Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Emily Dagnan recorded five hits and seven RBI on the day to lead Lee University to a doubleheader sweep over host Tusculum College Thursday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field in college softball action.

The Flames (11-13) won by scores of 16-0 and 14-2, both in five innings. Lee combined for 30 runs and 28 hits on the afternoon. Tusculum falls to 14-10 on the season.

The Pioneers will be on the road for their next four games with doubleheaders at Pfeiffer University (Sat.) and Limestone College (Sun.).

Game 1: Lee 16, Tusculum 0 (5 innings) - Box Score

Dagnan went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI in Lee's 16-0 win in the opener. Flames' pitchers Angie Hughes and Brianna Eichbaum combined on a two-hit shutout of the Pioneers.

Amanda Lynn also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.

Hughes scattered two hits over her three innings of work with four strikeouts to pick up the victory to improve her record to 4-7. Eichbaum pitched two shutout innings allowing a walk with a pair of strikeouts.

Tusculum's Taylor Battle accounted for the Pioneers only hits of the game, while also recording a stolen base. TC starting pitcher Eliza Davis (7-5) suffered the loss as she went 1 1/3 innings.

Game 2: Lee 14, Tusculum 2 (5 innings) - Box Score

The Flames tallied 16 hits including Dagnan's 3-for-4 efforts as Lee completed the sweep with a 14-2 win over Tusculum in five innings.

Six different players finished with multiple hits for the Flames, while Lexi Dean recorded a three-run triple.

Tusculum finished with five hits led by Carolyn Williamson's 2-for-3 effort with a RBI, one run scored and her 10th stolen base of the season. Battle also posted a hit and had a stolen base, giving her a team-leading 19 on the year. Robin Stoner went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

Lee starter Lee Beatenbough picked up the win in the circle, going four innings and allowed five hits and a pair of runs. Clark pitched a perfect fifth inning with a strikeout. TC starter Taylor Plemons (2-3) pitched 4 1/3 innings in the loss.
