DURHAM, N.C. --- Tusculum College junior
outfielder Katie Brennan has been named to the Capital One Academic
All-District Softball Team for NCAA Division II, the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. She
earns this honor for a second straight year.
Brennan, a native of Manassas, Va., has a 3.86 cumulative
grade-point average as a physical education and health &
wellness major. She advances with the other members of the
All-District 3 team to the national ballot of the Capital One
Academic All-America® team scheduled to be unveiled later this
month.
Brennan started in all 50 games in centerfield for the Pioneers where she posted a .290 batting average. She finished the season with 45 hits, including four doubles, three triples and a team-best five home runs. The Osbourn High School graduate accounted for 36 RBI and posted a pair of outfield assists.
Brennan and the Pioneers rebounded from a 6-14 start to the
season to win 25 of their final 30 games to post a 31-19 record and
win the 2013 South Atlantic Conference Championship for the first
time in school history.
Academically, Brennan is a member of the South Atlantic Conference
Commissioner's Honor Roll, the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor
Roll, the Dean's List and the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. She
is also a two-time NFCA Scholar Athlete.
She has volunteered with Tusculum's Nettie Day of Service where she assisted with Mustang Alley Ranch, a park for mistreated and abused horses. She has also worked with the City of Manassas Park Community Center and read to children at a local elementary school.
To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
District 3 is comprised of colleges and universities representing the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.
