Several members of the Tusculum College softball team are listed
in this week's NCAA Division II statistical rankings, through games
of Sunday, April 1.
Junior righthander Elizabeth Johnson is third in the nation in wins
with 22, trailing fellow South Atlantic Conference hurlers Dawon
Millwood of Lenoir-Rhyne and Mary Shealy of Carson-Newman who share
the lead at 23. Johnson, who is tied for 44th in shutouts with
four, picked up her 23rd win in Monday's 5-4 victory over
Erskine.
Senior third baseman Savannah Ewing ranks sixth in sacrifice bunts
per game at 0.44 (18 in 41 games), and senior outfielder Ashley
Burke is tied for 21st in sacrifice flies with six. Junior
shortstop Lindsey Umberger is tied for 34th with three triples, and
sophomore catcher Paige Sneed is 37th in walks per game at 0.62 (23
in 37 games).
As a team, the Pioneers are eighth in double plays per game at 0.51
(21 in 41 games), and rank 30th in earned run average at 1.94 and
34th in fielding percentage at .967. Tusculum is also 41st in
triples per game at 0.27 (11 in 41 games).
Tusculum (27-16 overall, 9-3 SAC) travels to Charlotte to take on
Queens University in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at 5:00
p.m.
