Tusculum College junior righthander Elizabeth Johnson is the
national leader in victories in the latest NCAA Division II
Softball statistical rankings, through games of March 25.
Johnson's 22 victories are the most at any level of college
softball - NCAA or NAIA - and are six shy of the program's
single-season record of 28 wins set by Tammy Fairfax in 1995. She
has earned the win in each of the Pioneers' last 11 victories and
has accounted for 22 of their 25 wins this season.
Johnson is also tied for 29th in shutouts with four, is 33rd in
earned run average at 1.46 and ranks 39th in strikeouts with 101.
She entered the week with a 22-6 record and 24 complete games in 28
starts.
Senior third baseman Savannah Ewing is third with an average of
0.49 sacrifice bunts per game (18 in 37 games), and senior left
fielder Ashley Burke is tied for 11th with three sacrifice
flies.
Also ranked is junior shortstop Lindsey Umberger, who is tied for
21st with three triples and is 31st-toughest to strike out,
whiffing in just 3.8 percent of her at-bats (4 in 106 at-bats).
Sophomore catcher Paige Sneed is ranked 31st in walks per game with
an average of 0.66 per contest (23 in 35 games).
As a team, the Pioneers are 13th in double plays turned per game at
0.49 (18 in 37 games), while ranking 19th in team earned run
average (1.69), 34th in fielding percentage (.968) and 45th in
winning percentage (25-12, .676).
Tusculum returns to action Saturday at Red Edmonds Field when it
hosts Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
