Johnson leads NCAA in wins in latest stats report
INDIANAPOLIS ---

Tusculum College junior righthander Elizabeth Johnson is the national leader in victories in the latest NCAA Division II Softball statistical rankings, through games of March 25.

Johnson's 22 victories are the most at any level of college softball - NCAA or NAIA - and are six shy of the program's single-season record of 28 wins set by Tammy Fairfax in 1995. She has earned the win in each of the Pioneers' last 11 victories and has accounted for 22 of their 25 wins this season.

Johnson is also tied for 29th in shutouts with four, is 33rd in earned run average at 1.46 and ranks 39th in strikeouts with 101. She entered the week with a 22-6 record and 24 complete games in 28 starts.

Senior third baseman Savannah Ewing is third with an average of 0.49 sacrifice bunts per game (18 in 37 games), and senior left fielder Ashley Burke is tied for 11th with three sacrifice flies.

Also ranked is junior shortstop Lindsey Umberger, who is tied for 21st with three triples and is 31st-toughest to strike out, whiffing in just 3.8 percent of her at-bats (4 in 106 at-bats).

Sophomore catcher Paige Sneed is ranked 31st in walks per game with an average of 0.66 per contest (23 in 35 games).

As a team, the Pioneers are 13th in double plays turned per game at 0.49 (18 in 37 games), while ranking 19th in team earned run average (1.69), 34th in fielding percentage (.968) and 45th in winning percentage (25-12, .676).

Tusculum returns to action Saturday at Red Edmonds Field when it hosts Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
