GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jennifer Turley
recorded a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI as the Tusculum
softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader over host Brevard
Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers (17-22) have won four in a row and
six of their last eight, while Brevard falls to 8-24 on the
season.
Turley went 3-for-6 on the day, while Samantha
Cole posted four hits in the two-game sweep.
Game 1: Tusculum 7, Brevard 6
Tusculum rallied from a three-run deficit and exploded for six
runs in the fourth inning as the Pioneers won the opener 7-6.
Ashley Basilicato and Turley both homered in the
victory for the Pioneers.
Trailing 4-1 heading into the fourth, Tusculum sent 10 batters to
the plate as Cole, Makenzie Loy and Shanda
Kimbrough each recorded consecutive doubles, while Turley
blasted a two-run homer in the six-run outburst.
Tusculum starter Megan DuBois went the distance
as she scattered 11 hits, allowed six runs, one earned, a walk and
three strikeouts. BC starter Jennifer Gift
suffered the loss.
Kimbrough went 2-for-3 in the game, while Turley and Loy both
accounted for two RBI apiece.
Game 2: Tusculum 6, Brevard 2
Cole went 3-for-4, while Turley added a pair of doubles in
Tusculum's 6-2 victory in the night-cap.
TC starter Ashley Whitehead tossed a complete game victory as she
limited the Tornados to five hits, allowed two runs, walked three
and struck out two.
Tusculum scored two runs in the third inning thanks to a two-run
single by Racheal Wilburn. In the fourth, TC
plated three more runs as Cole and Loy led off with back to back
singles. After a walk to Taylor MacDonald to load
the bases, Turley came through with a three-run double to move TC
up 5-0.
Wilburn accounted for another RBI single in the sixth to round out
the offensive attack for the Pioneers.
MacDonald scored three runs, while tying a school single-game
record, drawing four walks in the contest.
Tusculum will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when it hosts
Virginia Intermont for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Red Edmonds
Field.
