LMU SWEEPS TUSCULUM IN SAC SOFTBALL


HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Lincoln Memorial softball team swept a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader over visiting Tusculum College Wednesday afternoon at Neely Field. The Lady Railsplitters (24-9, 3-3 SAC) won by scores of 9-1 (6 innings) and 20-2 (5 innings).


Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 9, Tusculum 1

Amanda Wampler went 3-for-3 with three RBI as LMU rattled off 11 hits en route to a 9-1 win over Tusculum in six innings.

Alisa Burk and Sammy Jo Garrett each accounted for 2-for-3 outings, while starting pitcher Sara Henn went the distance to improve her record to 7-3. Henn scattered four hits, allowed an unearned run, walked one and struck out four.

Tusculum accounted for four hits, including doubles by Ashley Basilicato and Jess Greer.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 20, Tusculum 2

Lincoln Memorial erupted for 11 runs in the third inning as the Lady Railsplitters won 20-2. LMU posted 19 hits, including a 4-for-4 performance by Henn as she scored four times and drove in five RBI. Henn recorded a double and a home run in the win.

Wampler had another solid outing as she went 2-for-4, while Garrett went 3-for-3 with three RBI for the home team.

Tusculum was led at the plate by Taylor MacDonald as she went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored another in the loss. Greer went 2-for-2 for Tusculum, including her second double of the day and fourth of the season.

Wampler, who garnered the start in game two, picked up the win to improve to 9-4.

Tusculum returns home Saturday when the Pioneers host Catawba for a SAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Red Edmonds Field.
