GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tusculum College softball team
swept Seton Hill Tuesday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field. The
Pioneers won the first game 3-0 and followed with a 6-1 victory in
the night-cap. TC is 8-11 while the Griffins are 1-7.Game 1: Tusculum 3, Seton Hill 0
Junior Holli Cadenhead pitched a four-hit shutout as the Pioneers recorded a 3-0 victory over the Griffins. Cadenhead walked one and struck out two to improve her record to 3-3.
The Pioneers took advantage of a pair of errors in the first inning as Taylor MacDonald plated TC's first run of the day. Tusculum added two more runs in the third, once again thanks to MacDonald as she led off with a single and stole second. Ashley Basilicato came through with a clutch two-out double and later scored herself on a RBI single by Jess Greer.
Tusculum got out of jam in the seventh inning when Seton Hill's Erika Yates and Maggie Jones reached on back-to-back singles. But Cadenhead got an infield fly out to end the game.
Game 2: Tusculum 6, Seton Hill 1
In the second game, Makenzie Loy went 3-for-3 as the Pioneers pounded out 13 hits en route to a 6-1 victory. Megan DuBois tossed a complete game effort to even her record at 2-2 on the season. DuBois scattered five hits, allowed a run, walked one and struck out eight in the win.
Tusculum erupted for four runs in the first inning as the Pioneers recorded five hits, including a two-run double by Jess Greer to score Basilicato and Anna Johnson. Katy Footitt also accounted for a run-scoring single in the inning.
TC added another run in the second when Jennifer Turley led off with a single and would later score on a Basilicato RBI single as the Pioneers led 5-0.
Seton Hill (1-7) got on the scoreboard in the third when Lyndsey Nusser drove in Becky Bitsko with a base hit.
Tusculum (8-11) tallied a run in the sixth on a Shanda Kimbrough sacrifice fly to provide the final margin of victory.
Basilcato went 2-for-4 in the game, while Turley and Kimbrough each finished with a pair of hits.
Tusculum returns to action on Thursday when the Pioneers travel to Wingate University for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The twinbill was moved from Wednesday due to the threat of inclement weather.
