Pioneers Yield to Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Lindenwood on Friday night, but six Pioneers recorded a kill and eight had at least one dig.

The Lions (4-4) won by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-9 to sweep the Pioneers (2-6).

Lindenwood's A.J. Lewis launched 12 kills on a .556 hitting percentage to head up the Lion attack. Alex Pappas collected four kills and no errors for a .571 average. Brian Schwob recorded 16 assists, while Elijah Tabuarua notched six. At the line, Logan Nash finished with a match-high three service aces, followed by Tabuarua and Charley Hlavin with a pair each. Three Lions scooped up three digs apiece: Tabuarua, Lewis, and Cal Werths. Lewis also led Lindenwood with seven block assists, just ahead of six from Pappas.

Both Matteo Miselli and Shaun Kampshoff collected a team-high five kills on the night for the Pioneers. Arthur Amorim was a bright spot in the loss, recorded four kills on four swings for perfect hitting percentage. Mackenzie Scott (3), Shaphar Grant (2), and Hunter Walck (1) rounded out the offensive category. Lucas Blanco and Peter Stewart split the setting duties, dishing out 10 and eight assists, respectively. Jaret Knight led the back row with five digs, while both Stewart and Miselli dug up three each.

Lindenwood finished the match with a .379 hitting percentage with 30 kills and eight errors in 58 total attempts. TU tallied 20 kills, 22 errors, and 65 attacks for a -.031 hitting percentage. The Lions led the Pioneers in assists (23-19), aces (9-0), and total blocks (9-0). The two teams each collected 16 digs. This match marks the first time all season that the Pioneers did not record an ace or a block.

Tusculum continues the Midwest road journey with a Saturday (Feb. 1) night fight with the McKendree Bearcats. The first serve in Lebanon, Ill. is scheduled for 8pm EST.
