GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team returns home after a two-match hiatus to battle with the Rams of Bluefield College on Saturday. This will be the Pioneers' last home match until the end of February.
RECAPPING THE WEEK
The Black and Orange lost all three matches during the week, taking one set from North Greenville. Tusculum dropped the contests against Lincoln Memorial and Belmont Abbey in straight sets.
Matteo Miselli accumulated 23 kills across the team's 10 sets, followed by Shaun Kampshoff (11) and Mackenzie Scott (10). Lucas Blanco dished out the majority of assists with 43. At the line, Miselli and Ivan Sosa each accounted for a trio of service aces, while Hunter Walck and Shaphar Grant collected a pair apiece. Scott rounded out the category with an ace of his own.
Defensively, Miselli also recorded the most digs with 14. Blanco, Kampshoff, and Peter Stewart were just behind with 11, 10, and nine, respectively. In the front row, Grant made his biggest impact, totaling eight blocks (two solo, six assists). Kampshoff notched six total (one solo, five assists), while Miselli (five assists) and Arthur Amorim (one solo, four assists) added five total each.
Tusculum leads the independent teams in aces per set (1.47) and opponent hitting percentage (.250). Individually, Miselli ranks first among the unaffiliated with .474 aces per set, 25th nationally. Amorim averages one block per set, third across the independents and 23rd in the country. Each fourth in their respective categories are Blanco in assists per set (6.72) and Miselli in hitting percentage (.230) and points per set (3.53).
LOOKING AHEAD
Bluefield College (0-1) is set to face off against the Pioneers on Saturday after battling Erskine in their first match one week prior. Alberto Chiaparini led the Rams with 11 kills versus the Flying Fleet, followed by eight from Alex Duron. Caleb Word dished out 19 assists alongside a pair of aces. Chiaparini also collected two aces in the loss. Defensively, Colby Mutter finished with a team-high five digs. Eric Duron contributed five total blocks (one solo, four assists). After the one contest, E. Duron ranks second across NAIA Division I in blocks per game (1.67) and Chiaparini is ninth in kills per game (3.67).
