Akinpetide, Bonacia ranked in ITA Southeast Region

TEMPE, Ariz. --- Tusculum University junior David Akinpetide and sophomore Frank Bonacia are each ranked in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Men's Tennis Southeast Region rankings, the ITA announced Wednesday.

Akinpetide is ranked 15th in the Southeast Region and Bonacia checks in at 17th for the Pioneers, who competed in four tournaments and one dual match during the fall season.

Akinpetide compiled a 7-3 record during the fall for the Pioneers, including three victories in matches that went to either a third set or tiebreaker. Akinpetide advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Southeast Regional, where he was defeated by top-ranked Alvaro Regalado of Columbus State. The native of Chelles, France owns a career singles record of 18-18 for the Pioneers.

Bonacia, a transfer from Division I Chicago State, posted a 9-4 record in singles during the fall for the Pioneers. He advanced to the flight A finals at the Mountain Lion Invitational and played three tiebreakers in the championship match before finishing as runner-up. The Rome, Italy native was 3-1 in matches that went the distance, and among his losses was a setback to second-ranked Daniel Belsito of Wingate in the ITA Southeast Region round of 16.

Tusculum will resume its schedule on Sunday, Feb. 2 in a neutral-site match against Indianapolis in Lexington, Kentucky.
